Old man asking for help at night.

Something strange happened, not sure if it is a scam. I was coming back from somewhere, it was 10:15 pm, and I was waiting at the red light near Radisson hotel going towards Sector 18, saw an old man there with good clothes with a thaila and he approached me asking whether I can drop him to athulya chowk in sector 18. I said no , cause it made no sense, he could have taken a rikshaw or called his relatives or someone known. Is this some scam or I should have helped him out?
