Survivor 50: Episode 6 Edgic Contenders
Um… a good episode near the end. The twist feels like it sucked some life from the season but I think it will bounce back. A lot of changes this week with the merge(?)
My chart is above but here are my thoughts on each player..
Eliminated:
-
Kamilla: First, why did her group go first. Her group dominated she should be 15th but whatever. Not shocking that, just like Angelina, an underedited woman got voted out first in a multi boot episode. In hindsight, last week was just setting up why Jonathan flips on her.
-
Genevieve: There was a lot of foreshadowing that Genevieve would get beat by Aubry, but god damn she was twist screwed this season. Found 2 idols she can’t, those people go to exile, gets swapped with her rival and the people who gifted that rival an idol. Genevieve had a good shot of making it deep in this game if not for this twist. Hope she comes back if 54 (hopefully) is a returnee season.
-
Colby: Well, sh*t. I don’t regret having Colby as my frontrunner for the bit he was. He was getting consistent content tied to his story and playing the game, was on Vatu, and had set up relationships. But ultimately the foreshadowing of his foot last week was negative and meant to make us sympathize more with him as he went out, also completely screwed over like Genevieve.
Out of Contention:
-
Tiffany: Surprised she survived this episode. If her and Aubry make it far, she’s the background character.
-
Emily: Barely anything in this episode, just more about working with Ozzy and her being a swing vote in her group, and she doesn’t even get her way with Coach going home.
-
Joe: Back to the last tier group. Lost Colby, who was a key alliance member and also lost Genevieve, who according to her exit press was one of his closest allies. His only storyline is possibly targeting duos and being paranoid.
Probably Not Tier:
-
Chrissy: Most of her content is necessary due to voting out Kamilla and being a backup target. We do get Jonathan talking positive about her, but it odeon’t feel like it’s enough.
-
Rick: Gets to reintroduce his relationship with Christian which is good, but then spends the rest of the episode wanting Joe out and doesn’t get his way.
Looking Sideways I Barely See It Tier:
-
Coach: He lost Colby which really sucks for his edit which seemed to bounce last episode. He only gets one confessional about recognizing a mistake he made talking to Dee. It could be the edit safeguarding him, but I still would have liked more before the split.
-
Christian: The editors are allergic to the idea of giving this man a cool off episode. He is shown getting his way by taking out Genevieve, but I feel like her warming about him getting targeted as a trio with Aubry and Rick is going to come to haunt him.
-
Aubry: Maybe controversial because I know a lot of people would be looking at her after beating Genevieve, but I hated this episode for her chances. Her relationship with Rick and Christian is mostly in their perspective and when it comes to the scramble, the show puts more focus on Christian getting Genevieve out. I see more of a journey edit. The 2 things helping her stay high are her relationship with Tiffany and the fact she’s one of three OG Vatu members left after Kyle’s foreshadowing.
-
Jonathan: I know a lot of people are super high on him, especially after this episode but I’m not convinced. I mean, we literally see Cirie talk about how old era strategy won’t work, the camera immediately goes to Jonathan, and by the end of the episode he sides with old school. I get that Jonathan reiterates at the beginning about his new strategy and even after the Cirie scene but this feels like either endgamer or runner up.
Lukewarm Contenters:
-
Cirie: She, Ozzy, and Rizo get a lot of content about working together and she is portrayed as the connective tissue. However, hers felt the most necessary of the three and some of her other relationships haven’t been fleshed out (Emily & Christian in particular).
-
Stephanie: She gets good content surrounding her immunity win and her playing with old school. She did just lose Genevieve and Colby, but I could see this being part of a redemption story, losing all her original alliance and preserving through. Also, Kyle foreshadowing.
-
Dee: I can’t believe her edit is still this strong. She gets a great confessional after the merge is revealed about playing even harder, calling back to her first confessional in the premiere. She gets portrayed as a swing vote without contradicting herself. She did lose Kamilla but I wouldn’t be shocked if she gets revenge for her.
Main Contenders:
-
Ozzy: Is some of this content necessary? Yeah. But it’s all strong. His relationship with Cirie is reintroduced, he discusses his relationship with Christian & Emily. He gets lot of content with Rizo about building trust on Exile. I wish we had gotten more about how he planned to play differently, but compared to everyone else his edit feels more solid.
-
RizGod: I cannot believe he’s actually number one. He’s not even first because Colby is gone. His relationship with Cirie is focused on again, he builds trust with Ozzy, and he gets more content about becoming a legend. Plus, he’s on Vatu so the Kyle foreshadowing also applies to him. Losing Colby did hurt him, but he already has a lot more set up.
Excited for next episode, suspecting it’s just one person out but maybe more.
