Suggestions for disability accomodations for exclusively online degree program?
Hello, I (20M) have a brain injury that causes significant symptoms that affect many areas of my life. Specifically it makes college difficult for me in the areas of thinking, memory, vision, and concentration, among other things.
I tried in person college on a campus last year but it exacerbated my condition severely and it was nearly impossible to concentrate in class or recall information. It was absolutely miserable and so I decided to quit. But I have decided to try again and participate in an exclusively online degree program this fall through the online component of the same university. I feel that online classes will allow me to work around my condition better and be more manageable. The advisors have told me to apply for academic accomodations.
I did not have accomodations last year because the university requires medical records I didn't have. I do have those records since I'm seeing a specialist now, and so I intend to apply for them. However I'm unsure of what accomodations exactly are available for exclusively online coursework. The college disability office is not helpful and they just say that "everyone is different."
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for academic accommodations in an exclusively online degree program? If you have used accomodations in college at all, what was most helpful to you?
Thank you so much for reading.
