How do I make people think that I'm not better than everyone around me?
I (21F) have always had this issue where people from different institutions, age groups and occupations have said to me that I'm too "full of myself" (as in I must think I'm better than everyone) and I truly don't know what about me makes people think this.
For some clarity, I am NOT full of myself. Since childhood I've been a subject of bullying due to my shy nature and constant feeling of being unable to mix in with other people. I socially only got better after turning 16 and this seem to have made people think even more that I'm full of myself as now I actually interact with people and in doing so, use English. (in my country, proficiency in English is seen as something to look up to. But I only speak english with people who know the language like me. I have proficiency in my native languages too so I use them with people who don't speak english.)
There have been YEARS in my life where I was so insecure of my face that I refused to take ANY pictures whatsoever. Currently I only go out when it's necessary and even then I like to cover myself head to toe as I DO NOT like having my face seen. Everytime I come back from a social gathering, it's a major trigger for an anxiety or panic attack.
In short, forget being better than everyone, I've spent years of my life convinced I'm lesser than people in one way or another.
Even after having so many issues, I give the "vibe" of someone who's a narcissist.
I won't write this pretending as if I've never actually been rude to anyone. There have been instances where I DID act like I was better than others but in such cases these "others" were teachers and classmates who were misogynist or just hated me because they presumed I was a mean girl. (So like "if you think I'm SO mean, then I'll actually act mean.)
Some comments I've received about myself: -"The way you talk, the vocabulary and all makes you look like someone who's from a rich household" (this doesn't make sense because if your contempt is for you mistaking me for someone rich...why aren't you hating actual rich people around us?) -"you are so nice!! I was so scared to approach you because you look intimidating but you're so cool." (An actual comment a girl said to me.) -"You have a resting mean face." (So do some others...? I don't get why I'm getting such contempt.)
I wish I could provide more context but I genuinely have no idea which behaviour or trait of mine is so different and bizarre to people that they reach to this conclusion and am here to know what might be the issue.
