Why 1410?

TL;DR:  In the locker room after their shower together, Ilya asked for Shane’s room number rather than giving his own. Why did Ilya want to use Shane’s room for their first hookup?  There are three reasons. All arise from Ilya’s sensitive awareness that Shane would be as skittish as a trembling fawn facing a Siberian tiger. (Shane was also as lusty as a faun.)

First, if Shane had been invited to Ilya’s room, Shane would have had ample opportunity to chicken out while furtively walking the long hotel corridors before reaching Ilya’s door. Indeed, Shane perhaps would have been too nervous to even leave his own room before heading to Ilya’s. In that scenario, their first hookup wouldn’t have happened, and Ilya might have permanently given up on the idea of ever seducing Shane. Ilya would have felt very dispirited after going to all the trouble of arranging for the commercial shoot to include Shane, and after observing Shane’s arousal in the shower.

Second, if Shane were in Ilya’s hotel room and momentarily panicked, it would have been logistically very easy for Shane to leave without requiring Ilya’s cooperation. All Shane would need to do is open the door and walk away. However, with Ilya in Shane’s hotel room, Shane couldn’t simply leave unilaterally. Instead, he’d need to somehow find a way to get Ilya to leave.

I’m not suggesting that, by asking for Shane’s room number, Ilya was somehow conniving to be able to stay there against Shane’s will if Shane withdrew his consent. However, by making it logistically less easy for Shane to unilaterally end their tryst, Ilya was safeguarding against the possibility that Shane might impulsively rush out in a fleeting moment of panic. If Shane wanted their get-together in the hotel room to end, Shane would have to make a conscious, deliberate decision to do so, and communicate that to Ilya.

Third, Ilya intuitively understood that Shane would be extremely nervous. Although hotel stays are inherently transitory, your hotel room, in some sense, becomes your temporary home. Ilya also knew that Shane would, of course, be familiar with the concept of “home ice advantage”. By arranging for their assignation to be in Shane’s room, Ilya hoped that Shane might feel a bit more relaxed and comfortable there.

Bonus reason: Perhaps Ilya fantasized that, in their very first sex session together, he’d rail Shane so vigorously and thoroughly that Shane would have trouble walking from Ilya’s room back to his own.
