Nervous Shakes?
Hello all… Writing here from Brooklyn NY. At home we have Lupe, a 6 y/o hairy chi who’s our pride and joy. She’s always been a shy girl and quite calm. It’s been about 8 months since she started acting differently.
Btw nothing at home has changed at all, apart from the day-to-day relationships problems with my spouse but no fighting or screaming or anything of the sorts.
Firstly Lupe developed a fear of the running dishwasher around September 2025, once is turned on she would start shaking and run and hide on a dark corner under a bed or try run out of the apartment if the front door was open.
On Feb this year this fear extended to the washer/dryer as well, acting all scared and shaking when this appliances are running.
We had her checked out by her vet around Nov 2025 and tests came back normal.
The vet prescribed Reconcile 8mg (half pill daily) to see if this would help but I don’t see improvements.
Also on Feb 2025 we hired a trainer to see if it would help. The trainer suggested desensitizing exercises but they don’t seem to work. On seeing the results, the trainer suggested more veterinarian tests to rule out some sort of pain perhaps on the hips or joints. The theory is that there is a pain/noise association issue.
In early May 2026 Lupe had a dental cleaning and a tiny surgical procedure in her mouth. She was on painkillers for 2 weeks after this (Meloxicam) and if she were to experience other types of pain, the medication would have helped but she was still shaking and scared when the appliances ran.
Since after her surgery, she seems to start shaking out of nothing. Her anxiety seems to be getting worse rather than improving.
We had a brutal winter this year but our apartment was always kept warm and we also have coats and sweaters for her when the weather turns.
Also, weather permitting, she gets a daily 30-40 min walk outside and she’s well socialized with other dogs.
As you can imagine we are really confused as about how to proceed with her. Wanted to put this out here to see if anyone has experienced anything similar?
Thx everyone…
