Claude finished a task and was idle - then "Compacting conversation" and used 22% of the quota to do it?

Seriously!?

Asked it to do a simple task to reformat a html report - when it was done I was in the middle of revieweing it when I think my session time ticked over, and "Compacting conversation" popped into the Claude window. 10mins later, and 22% of my next session quota later, it stopped and just gave me back the cursor...

This feels so scammy.
