Are we stuck with Word?

So I was an avid user of LO, but with time I’ve had more and more issues writing, since my formatting wad all messed up in word when opened by professors or reviewers.

Naturally, I’d switch to LaTex if I was a STEM major, but as I’m not - no point in learning it since my field is in humanities.

The other option i markdown, which I already know, but ti be honest, it’s a pain in the ass to deal with citations.

Since most, if not all, of publishing in my country relies on Word and OOXML (the pain point of LO), I was wondering what do you guys use?

If you use MD, is there any workflow that you’d recommend?
