I (21 F) asked my bestfriend (21 M) to do the 36 questions. What now?
Hi! (Throw away account because I'm hoping he never finds this post haha) This is a lot, but let me explain. I (21 F), asked my lifelong friend (21 M), let's call him Tom, if he'd like to try the 36 Questions experiment.
I've known Tom since we were 2 years old, and we've been friends ever since. Over the past couple years, I've realized I've developed a crush on Tom. But I have always been too nervous to say anything. I don't want to ruin a good thing, and it's impossible for me to tell if he likes me in that way or not.
I don't know if I'm being delusional, but subtle comments have given me the impression that he might like me. The one that surprised me the most, was when he told me that he'd like to take me traveling around the world with him if he ever "made it" in his field/career. I saw it as a friendly offer, but some of my friends (who pick up social cues better than I do) seemed surprised, and thought this was pretty romantic.
He'll say things like "If you go, I'd go ;)" whenever I ask him if he'd ever be interested in different activities like skydiving, or being on game shows, but I think this could always be friendly. Although he has used the winky face a couple of times alongside these types of responses, I'm not really convinced of anything.
He's always very worried for me whenever I'm experiencing symptoms from my chronic health issues, and has always been extremely understanding and attentive. But again, this could be him being an extremely good friend. He's a very kind person, with a good heart.
I try being subtle and hint that I like him, to see if it would help me get a better idea of how he feels, but we always wind up in the same place. I don't want to confess how I feel because I don't want to make things uncomfortable.
Recently I found out about of this experiment or idea online, called the 36 questions that lead to love. It's also used to help strangers become friends, but more recently it's only referred to as something more romantic. It's said that these 36 questions are meant to show people whether or not they're in love or compatible. I think at least. I'm not sure I entirely grasp the concept myself.
Here's where I'm afraid I did something stupid. I decided to suggest to Tom that once our spring semester is over, we try this experiment. I tried being light-hearted and funny about it. Kind of like just using it as an experiment or icebreaker since we've been pretty busy with college lately. But now I'm scared that it was way too forward. If he doesn't like me in that way, what if he's completely repulsed at the idea?
I haven't heard back yet, I just sent the message a couple hours ago. But I'm afraid of what he'll say. I'll keep everyone updated, but I'm definitely nervous, and seeking out advice on this situation.
