Ever use plugins for ripped game music?

Just wondering if anyone did this before every piece of video game music became available on YouTube, and this stuff is still around if anyone's interested.

The emulator making community 20 years ago developed a number of video game music formats, they would take ROMs and strip them until they were just music, small 65Kb files but with the cool features of the SNES soundchip, like the ability to infinitly loop the end of a track after a beginning played only once, or mute individual instruments like a MIDI. Instead of ID3 tags, SPCs had ID666 tags.

There was USF for Nintendo 64, there was originally GYM for Sega Genesis but it was replaced by something else, I contributed a GYM set once myself because some emulators let you rip these as a built in feature.

Anyway, they did make their own players just for these formats, but these were also available as Winamp plugins (sometimes foobar2000 plugins too if you were a pleb) and that is easily the best kind of Winamp plugin ever to me.

Have you ever messed around with this stuff? If you want to learn an SNES or NES track on a real musical instrument, you might want to look into NSF and SPC to mute the other channels.
