I stopped trying to “fix my life” and weirdly… everything got better
For the longest time, I treated productivity like a problem to solve.
New apps, new routines, waking up earlier, watching videos about “high performers”… I was constantly trying to optimize myself. And honestly? I just felt more exhausted and more behind.
A few weeks ago I hit a point where I just… stopped. Not in a dramatic way. I didn’t quit everything. I just decided: what if I made today slightly easier instead of “perfect”?
So instead of planning my whole day, I picked 2 things. Just 2. If I did those, the day was a win. No overthinking, no guilt spiral if I didn’t do 10 other things.
And something kind of unexpected happened. I started actually finishing things. I felt less resistance starting work. I didn’t dread my to-do list anymore.
It sounds obvious, but I think I was trying to sprint a marathon every single day.
Now my “system” is literally:
- 2 priorities
- 1 small thing for myself
- everything else = bonus
That’s it.
I’m not suddenly some productivity machine, but I feel… steady. And honestly, that feels better than being “motivated” for 2 days and crashing after.
If you’re stuck in that cycle of constantly trying to improve but feeling worse, maybe try doing less on purpose.
Not everything needs to be optimized. Sometimes it just needs to be doable.
