Seizure milestones: “I am 4 years seizure-free—here’s what helped me

Advice

I wanted to share my experience for anyone struggling to find control over their epilepsy. I’ve now been seizure-free for 4 years, and it’s been a journey to get here.

What helped me:

  • Taking medications consistently and working closely with my neurologist to find the right combination.
  • Doing deeper research and advocating for myself—finding a neurologist who genuinely wanted to investigate the cause.
  • Lifestyle changes: low sugar diet, regular exercise, and supporting my body with supplements like vitamin D, magnesium, and fish oil.
  • Using an external VNS device, which has helped in the long term.

Every person’s epilepsy is different, so what worked for me might not work exactly the same for others, but consistency, research, and proactive care made a huge difference.
