Scandinavian trolls - illustrated children’s books?

I have very vague memories of reading these when I was very young (1980s) - I mostly remember the art style, which was almost like the “Little Critter” books but much more detailed. The trolls had super-stereotypical Scandinavian names like Sven and Lars, I think there were multiple books about the same troll couple? I also remember being scared by the characters even though I’m sure the stories weren’t particularly scary by most people’s standards :-D

I’m in the US but my hometown has a large Norwegian population so it’s entirely possible these books weren’t originally in English.
