25/75 UPRO/VXUS compared to "clean" 150% Global mix, interesting results!
I've been skeptical of LETFs for long term investors in the past but I'm realizing that they are a perfectly viable vehicle for investors to access leverage. They can ABSOLUTELY be implemented in a long term buy and hold portfolio as well. Fees and volatility do act as a drag on returns, that much is clear but you are still getting meaningful outperformance.
Caveats: This is only 16 years of data following one of the period of US outperformance in history. This portfolio would likely suffer in a Japanese style lost decade, where the volatility/fees would drag HARD. Valuations in the US market are still sky high and I would be wary of adding 3x leverage over the long term, even when balanced with international.
Thoughts?
