I built an Android music player with AutoEQ-based headphone-to-headphone sound transformation — curious about your thoughts
🎧 Core idea
Instead of just EQ presets, I tried something different:
1. Headphone correction (AutoEQ)
You pick your headphone/IEM from a database (~6000+ profiles), and it gets flattened to neutral.
2. Headphone → Headphone targeting
Then you can pick another headphone from the same database and apply its EQ curve as a target.
👉 So basically:
You can make one headphone approximate the tuning of another.
Example:
- Turn a neutral set into something closer to Harman-style
- Or experiment with different signatures without buying new gear
📊 Implementation details
- Parametric EQ (frequency, gain, Q, filter types)
- Preamp to avoid clipping
- Real-time frequency response graph
🎵 Other stuff
- Bit-perfect mode
- Hi-res playback
- Local library only (no streaming)
❓ What I’m curious about
- How “convincing” do you think headphone-to-headphone EQ can realistically get?
- Do you guys actually use AutoEQ regularly, or prefer manual tuning?
- Any limitations you’ve noticed with FR-based corrections?
If anyone’s interested in trying it, I can share access — just let me know 👍
