did Gappy lose what made him unique?

Part Eight

Part 8 is one of my favourite parts, but Gappy (josuke8)’s characterisation from about a quarter into the series felt basically nullified. At the start, Gappy was weird; he constantly talked about distances, enjoyed pressure being applied to his body while sleeping, and was overall very odd. However, as the story progressed, he began to feel more “normal” and lost what made him so different compared to the other Joestars. He was naive and childish, yet still enjoyable.

Of course, I know he was mostly meant to represent a blank slate, but the removal of what made him so distinct did make him less interesting. So I ask: was this intentional character development, or was it simply a case of Araki forgetting some of Gappy’s characteristics?
