A teacher opens a studio two doors down from our studio

Teaching, Teacher Training, Running Studios

Any thoughts or experience when it comes to a teacher opening a studio within a close proximity to the studio she started working with.

Our story: small studio built by myself and we grew slowly. No other studio in town and hard to find teachers who are certified. After hiring this teacher, 4 months go by and we find out she is already planning a studio of her own, two doors down on the same

Block. I asked her about all of this and she quit on the spot..

Now I understand it’s a free country, and people can open businesses wherever they want to. I know Non Competes and contracts are important.

As a single owner and full time teacher, you are always putting out different fires. As a first time studio operator, you learn and build a lot on the fly. Plus having a baby this year, I really needed some help for the evening classes.

My members are very loyal and supportive. We have a strong relationship with the community. I started my journey 8 years ago to get to this place. It was step by step, session by session and 6 days a week for last 6 years. Granted, there are many other occupations who have it way tougher, and I try not to complain. I am very grateful for what I’m able to do and provide a family with this.

I guess I’m just asking the community how they feel. Or if they’ve experience anything like this, and want to share with me.
