I built a team builder that actually knows your roster and tells you what to do next
TL;DR: I came back to HSR after 2 years away, got overwhelmed, and found that every tool out there just gives you tier lists and says "figure it out." So I built StarGuide, a team builder that imports your actual roster and gives personalized advice. Free to use, no login required for most features. starguide.gg
Hey everyone!
I first played this game back in 2023 around launch. Life happened, I dropped off, and when I came back in 2025... there were so many new characters, new endgame modes, new relic sets everywhere. I had no idea what to do.
I went to the usual sites, looked up tier lists, read guides. They're great for telling you "Anaxa is T0" or "The Herta dominates Pure Fiction," but when you're staring at your own roster trying to figure out which teams to run, who to pull next, or where to farm, you're still kind of on your own. I wanted something that could just look at what I own and tell me. So I started building in December 2025, and I've been shipping updates nearly every day since.
What it does (the free stuff)
Everything below works without paying or even logging in. Import your roster via scanner JSON (Reliquary Archiver, full account) or UID (quick start, pulls your 8 showcase characters). You can also just toggle ownership manually.
Character pages for 85+ characters with investment priorities, relic builds, team compositions broken down by playstyle, and relic analytics that grade each equipped piece from S to D based on set matching, main stat, and substat quality (if you import via scanner JSON). Every eidolon and light cone has a score so you can compare what's actually worth chasing vs what's a trap. If you think a rating is wrong, there's a feedback button on every page and I review every submission.
Teammate synergy ratings for every DPS composition, S+ to D. Not just "Robin is good," but why she's S+ for one comp and A for another. The ratings account for specific kit interactions, not just generic "this support is strong."
Best Teams generates your strongest non-overlapping teams across MoC, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow using your actual roster. If you have two strong DPS, it figures out how to split your supports optimally instead of stacking everyone on one side. Lock a team you like and it optimizes around it.
Pull Advisor shows which characters would help your existing roster the most, and which of your supports are waiting for a DPS to pair with. Especially useful before big banners when you're trying to decide where your pulls go.
Banner Advisor evaluates whatever's currently running against your roster and tells you whether it's actually worth pulling or not for your account specifically.
Account Power gives your entire account a single score, broken down by endgame mode, with history tracking and community ranking. Fully free.
Team Investment Paths are step-by-step guides for building out a specific team. The Castorice Premium path walks you through Castorice + Cyrene + Hyacine + Evernight: which LCs to get first, which eidolons actually matter, and where to stop if you're not whaling. Each step explains why it's in that order.
LC Advisor optimizes your light cone assignments (you might have a BiS cone on a benched character) and tells you what to acquire next.
What's behind the paywall
All the game knowledge (tier lists, team comps, build guides, teammate ratings) is free. Always will be. What costs money are the computational tools that crunch your specific roster to give personalized recommendations.
One-time passes, not subscriptions. 3, 6, or 12 months. They stack. No auto-renewal. Supporter works out to $2-3/mo depending on duration. Trailblazer (adds AI Coach) is $5-8/mo.
Supporter tier:
- Next Best Action: simulates every possible pull, eidolon, and LC upgrade you could make, then ranks them by how much they'd actually move your Account Power score. Shows you the impact per mode so you can see "E2 Sparxie adds X to my MoC score but nothing to PF."
- Endgame Planner: optimal team pairs for every stage of MoC/PF/AS. Simulates all buff options (Cacophony, Finality's Axiom, Arbitral Quadrant) and picks the combination that maximizes your score.
- Relic Insights: ranks farming domains by how many of your characters benefit, and shows per-team member relic readiness grades with specific issues flagged (wrong main stat, missing set bonus, low substat quality).
Trailblazer tier (includes above):
- AI Coach: conversational AI that actually has your roster loaded in. When you ask "should I pull on this banner?", it checks what supports you already own, what your teams look like, and whether you'd be better off investing elsewhere. It's calling tools against your real data, not just generating generic advice. Remembers your goals across conversations too, like "I'm saving for anniversary" or "I want to focus on my Elation team," so its advice stays consistent over time.
When asked \"Should I save for Cyrene?\"
Some stuff you might care about
- Privacy: import is read-only. Your account credentials are never involved. Without an account, all data stays in your browser and never leaves your device.
- No login wall: most features work without an account. Creating one just adds cloud sync.
- Mobile works: fully responsive, not a desktop-only afterthought.
- Community features: live activity ticker, leaderboards, public profiles, power distribution chart.
- Updated constantly: new characters get full pages with investment data, teammate ratings, and compositions as soon as they release.
The philosophy
Tier lists tell you who's good. They don't tell you what to do with your specific roster, your specific pulls, your specific relics. That's what StarGuide tries to be: the next step after you've read the tier list.
Happy to answer any questions. Solo dev, so I read everything. If I got anything wrong in this post like an idiot or you spot bad data on the site, call me out. There's a feedback button on every character page that goes directly to me, and I fix things fast.
Built by a returning player who wanted one place that actually tells you what to do next.
