When is it appropriate to talk about finances in a relationship?
Hi all,
I’m 26 f, based in the UK, London and trying to figure out what’s considered “normal” when it comes to discussing money in dating/relationships.
For context, I’m quite financially focused (saving/investing, thinking long-term), and I don’t want to get into something serious with someone who has a completely different mindset — but I’ve also been told I can come across as too blunt bringing it up.
So I’m trying to understand:
- At what stage in dating is it actually appropriate to talk about money seriously?
- What level of detail is normal early vs later on?
- How do you bring it up without making it feel like an interview or putting the other person off?
Interested to hear what people think, especially in a UK context where money seems a bit taboo.
Thanks.
