AIO to my boyfriend completely shutting down when he’s upset?

Whenever my boyfriend gets upset with me he fully shuts down. He’ll ignore me completely, won’t look at me, won’t talk to me, and if he does it’s short text messages where he goes back and forth between acting sad and mad at me. He’ll pull up sad music and play it loudly while still ignoring me.

These instances usually happen when I ask for time alone or if I’m off doing something. Or if I’m already upset with him and he gets upset that I’m upset with him and bringing down the mood.

When he finally does start talking to me again the conversation always comes back around to his dead mother or he’ll tell me he’s having thoughts again. It’s a little stressful cause sometimes I just don’t feel like I’m allowed to be alone or feel anything other than joy when I’m with him for fear he’ll spiral.

I love him, but I’m stressed.

I’m gonna be honest, I think I already know the answer but I absolutely am seeking validation in others. This is my first relationship and I doubt myself a lot and I fear doing something unkind unintentionally so I want to be 100% sure before I do something.
