Baby is having trouble feeding…
Hey all! As the title suggests, for about 3 weeks now, every feed has been a struggle. My LO is 4 months. She’s strictly FF, has been since she was a month and a half, and is now on a 3rd formula (enfamil gentlease) due to issues with prior brands/types.
She started exhibiting symptoms of silent reflux, so I brought it up at her 4 month appt. Pediatrician gave the go ahead to introduce oatmeal cereal to her bottles to help. Didn’t want to medicate because she’s gaining appropriate weight, but things haven’t improved.
I used to be able to feed her one handed… this isn’t the reason I’m seeking advice- it just paints the picture of how bad things have gotten. I now have to hold her steady with my left arm, and follow her mouth with my right. She takes a sip, pushes the bottle away, then wants it right back, takes another sip and repeats. She twists, arches her back, and turns her head throughout the entire feed. If I take the bottle away or try to burp her, she frantically cries and tenses her body to where I can’t get her to sit anymore.
I feel bad because I just imagine that she’s hungry but in pain when feeding… who wants that?
I’m starting to think it’s not reflux. Has anyone experienced this??
Just a few facts: she feeds 6oz every 3 hours, I’m now incorporating 3 tsp of oatmeal cereal to every bottle, since she was 2 months old she’s been fed in a more seated position to help with the reflux, I hold her up for at least 30 minutes after every feed.
Next step is to go back to the doctors and ask if I can feed her in front of them so they can see what’s happening. Figured I’d ask Reddit to see if anyone has been through something similar. TIA.
