$260k in HYSA — Should I DIY investing or hire a financial advisor?
I’m looking for some guidance on how to optimize my investing strategy going forward.
Current situation:
- $260k sitting in a HYSA (yes, I know this is too much cash)
- ~$150k in Fidelity (mix of brokerage, Roth IRA, SEP-IRA, and 403b — mostly mutual funds/ETFs)
- ~$50k in Robinhood in individual stocks
Background:
- Physician, recently finished residency
- No debt
- Income:
- Next 3 years: ~$180k–200k
- After that: ~$350k–450k
- Married, no kids yet
- Fairly frugal lifestyle — main spending is travel and occasional dining out
What I’m trying to figure out:
- How much of this cash should I be deploying (and how quickly)
- If sticking with a simple index fund strategy is sufficient for my income/net worth
- At what point, if any, does it make sense to hire a financial advisor
I’ve done some basic investing so far, but I want to make sure I’m not being inefficient or missing anything as my income ramps up.
Appreciate any advice, especially from others in a similar situation.
