Why do commonfolk dislike Strahd in your campaign?

So, do they fear, hate or simply dislike him? For what?Does Strahd interfere with the burgomasters' rule if they don't displease him? Do Vallaki citizens think that he's better than Vargas? How does he influence people's everyday lives, aside from the obvious? How bad is he as a feudal lord? Does he do anything cruel on regular basis?
