Payroll Fraud
My ex owns a very successful clothing business operating online and across several boutiques and department stores in North America. In the past I’ve helped him out in the office and at trade shows, for this reason I was on payroll while we were together (2022 - 2024). However, upon filing my income taxes my accountant informed me that I was missing another 2025 w2. Imagine my surprise when I found out that he still has me on payroll and is collecting checks in my name that I am assuming he’s pocketing. Not only has this increased my tax responsibility and taxable income, it is fraud and gross identity misuse. I reached out to him to see if this is something he can rectify on his end, but his ego is in the way. What are my options? Sue? Report? Report and sue?
