AITJ for not wanting to be a groomsmen and how do I respectfully get out of it?
Hey gang,
One of my friends is getting married and her fiancé is this really nice guy who is very thoughtful and sweet.
For weeks she has been telling me she has to meet up with me and that it’s urgent.
Well we couldn’t meet up this week and she told me how her fiancé was going to ask me to be one of his groomsmen and he has a proposal box for me.
The thing is… I’ve only met him a total of 4 times.
When we first met, he would always say how highly and fondly she talks of me and how awesome I am. The second time meeting me he said how much he likes me and how I’m a great guy and wonderful. Our hangout sessions would be like 1 hour to 4 hours max.
So when she told me this I thought it was nice but also unexpected and a bit uncomfortable because I really do not know him like THAT.
I feel like perhaps I’m just a filler or maybe he doesn’t have too many friends but I can’t say because I don’t know him that well at all. I find this to be a bit overwhelming.
Also I got COVID a few months ago and it has temporarily affected my hair and I don’t feel comfortable enough to be a groomsmen in a wedding in such a self-conscious state.
How do I get out of this without hurting feelings? I don’t think I can be too honest. I was gonna makeup a white lie and say I will attend the wedding but I’m starting a second job soon and can’t fulfill a groomsman duties by attending certain things, and it’s kind of true because I do plan to work a second job soon.
Idk any advice???
