Preemie

So im talking about to local 428 out of Bakersfield.

I passed the test, had my interview and ranked 17. I went to orientation and they said they hired a group of 100+ people. That the start of the new year they will cut the group down to 30-40 people due to class size. Is this a common practice or what do you guys think about this situation? What are my odds of actually getting accepted on the new year? I would love to hear your thoughts. They called us “Preemies” lol idk how to feel about that.
