The irony of prepping my stomach for a trip to SE Asia…

Discussion

Only for Delta’s in-flight pork bulgogi to give my stomach Hell.

I spent 10 days taking Florastor’s probiotic + prebiotic supplement to give my gut the flora it needs to survive Cambodia, even packed Travalan as an extra defense for when I’m eating Cambodian food. My itinerary here is too packed to spend time recovering from travel sickness and I wanted to be extra prepared. It’s my second time in Cambodia and the same strategy kept me clear and healthy during my previous trip.

But nope, Delta’s in-flight meal got me good on the trip from Minneapolis to Phnom Penh. Started feeling rumbly shortly before landing in Incheon, and the turbulence kept the seatbelt sign on for 2.5 of the 5.5 hours from Incheon to Phnom Penh where I was working up a sweat trying to keep it together.

Finally was able to get it out safely and securely while in that flight’s bathroom, but barely. And the diarrhea lasted two days.

It’s just funny I spent all this time prepping for foreign bacteria, only for the in-flight meal to get me sick. I’ll now be taking Travalan any time I’m offered an in-flight meal from Delta; I didn’t take it on the last flight but now wishing I did. Never ever want to go through that again.
