The Great flood of My Week Sucked... Onto asking about my couch/lovwseat.

🔧 Plumbing & Hot Water

My sump pump decided it was only a part time worker during the heaviest rainfall my city has seen in years. It would kick on for 5 minutes and off for 15. Basement took on a foot(ish) of water in the back and what seems to be about 9 inches in the finished area where my faux suede couch and loveseat are. They are both old as dirt but still comfy. Onto the real details.

This was my mancave area and in a finished section. The water in the finished area seemed to stay fairly clean (as groundwater can be i guess). The 2 pieces were only submerged about 5 inches as both have 4 inch clearance. The final waterline is still a good half a foot from the cushions. They were under water for maybe 4 hours.

The next morning I had begun drying everything out. had airflow on them immediately. Have a professional restoration crew working here. However, one or two of their answers have bothered me. I was leaning towards pitching the couch and loveseat. However, they said they think they would be fine.

I am definitely not a rich man, so I thought I would ask. Should I try to wait until the restoration crew is done and flip them over and check them, do some disinfecting to be safe if they seem ok or should I just throw them out and bite the bullet on a few hundred to replace them ?

Any thoughts or advice on basement floods in general is welcome.
