What to do…

Support Needed

I have a nine week old and have been triple feeding with expressed milk since LO was a week old to get my supply established and due to poor transfer. I’ve seen two LCs, neither of whom were very helpful with solutions for getting me out of this. At their weighted feeds I was consistently transferring 1-17 oz. Though we have a scale and I’ve done bigger feeds since.

I’ve forged my own path here, but I’m still pumping roughly seven times a day and topping her off when she doesn’t take a strong feed from me. The past two days she’s been nursing much better, I can tell she is getting stronger. Today though we are back to lazy feeds, it’s like she is tired…and I feel like she’s only getting an ounce or so, she isn’t actively sucking and swallowing beyond the letdown.

Two questions:

  1. Any advice for getting out of this kind of odd triple feeding scenario? I’m worried my supply will dip if I just cut pumps cold turkey.

  2. Has anyone else had their baby just magically get it around this age or later? Should I keep trucking for a while until her feeds get more consistent? Or am I not doing any of us any favors by continuing to pump and top off? I wonder if I’m essentially taking milk away from her feed to feed?

Thanks for the advice!
