[REVSHARE] Senior 3D Character Modeler + Mentor Role — Celestium™ | 10v10 Third-Person MOBA | UE5.6 | High-Fidelity Realistic Heroes & Creatures
Hey r/INAT,
I'm Elijah, founder and lead developer of Altros Studios LLC. We're looking for a senior 3D character modeler who can both produce game-ready assets AND mentor our junior modeler. This is a two-in-one role — your hands build the heroes, your experience levels up our team.
The game:
Celestium™ is a 10v10 third-person MOBA built in Unreal Engine 5.6. Think League of Legends meets Destiny in scope and fidelity — 8-ability kits, three-tier vertical map with flight mechanics, beam tower weapons, and a cosmic fantasy setting on a bioluminescent alien planet called Solace.
Engineering is at ~85% MVP. 38,000+ lines of C++, 200+ files, 4 playable heroes implemented in code, 31 gameplay systems, SpacetimeDB multiplayer, and RL-trained AI bots. The code is ready. Now we need the art to match the vision.
What we need modeled:
- Hero characters — cosmic fantasy warriors. Not medieval knights. These are beings born from dying stars and black holes. Astral material, crystallized energy formations, bioluminescent accents. Bodies that look like living cosmic phenomena, not people wearing armor. Art direction is high-fidelity realistic with subtle heroic exaggeration.
- Bosses and creatures — 3 boss types (Cosmic Leviathan, Astral Behemoth, Abyssal Guardian) plus jungle camp creatures
- Minions — 3 types with distinct silhouettes for lane combat
- And more — weapons, environmental props, cosmetic skins, towers, mounts, etc. Full scope is under NDA.
- Game-ready for UE5 with Nanite support
The mentor side:
We have a junior 3D modeler on the team (Eric) who is learning Maya and ZBrush. He's motivated but early in his journey. We need someone who can:
- Review his work and give constructive feedback
- Guide him on topology, UV unwrapping, and game-ready optimization
- Help him understand the pipeline from high-poly sculpt → retopo → bake → engine
- Be patient. He's learning. Your job is to accelerate that, not do it for him.
This doesn't mean you're a full-time teacher — you're primarily producing assets. But 15-20 minutes a day reviewing Eric's work and pointing him in the right direction makes a huge difference.
The team:
Core of 5 — myself on engineering, Eric on 3D art (your mentee), a concept artist, a creative producer/world designer greyboxing the map in UE5, and a strategic advisor with 20 years of industry experience. We also have an AI-powered concept art pipeline that generates high-fidelity character references and base 3D meshes from concept sketches — you'd be refining AI-generated starting points, not sculpting from a blank sphere.
Compensation:
Equity with standard 4-year vesting schedule. No cash compensation at this stage. This is a ground-floor opportunity at a studio with a nearly complete MVP, active investor conversations, and grant applications in the pipeline.
Requirements:
- Strong portfolio showing game-ready character models at high fidelity — we want to see your topology, your materials, your in-engine renders
- Experience with Maya, ZBrush, and Substance Painter (or equivalent pipeline)
- Understanding of UE5 Nanite and game-ready optimization
- Experience with ComfyUI or willingness to learn it — our internal pipeline runs on it and you'll be using it daily
- Mentorship experience or willingness — if you've ever helped a junior artist level up, mention it
- Daily check-ins (non-negotiable — a few bullet points, takes 5 minutes) and weekly standup
- NDA and IP Assignment required before onboarding
- Perforce for version control, Discord for communication
AI policy:
Altros Studios builds around AI-assisted workflows — AI tools are required, not optional. We use ComfyUI, Hunyuan3D, and Stable Diffusion as core parts of our pipeline. We have an internal tool that takes finalized concept art from our concept artist and generates high-fidelity references, character sheets, and base 3D meshes — so you're refining an AI-generated starting mesh, not sculpting from a blank sphere. That said, we do not accept fully AI-generated final deliverables. Your portfolio should be your own hand, and your work for us will be too. AI gives you a head start — your skill makes it real.
