Were TV show intro sequences until the ‘90s and throughout the 2000s longer and consistently have more effort put into them?
Hi.
I grew up on shows during the ‘80s onwards and seen many of the hit shows during the decades since and it feels like the intro sequences these days are just not an interesting or elaborately put together as many (not all) shows from earlier. The music, the clips from episodes, the actors’ names, intros fitting the theme of the particular shows, it just seems different today and like less time and money is spent putting them together.
i mean, just off the top of my head, a long list of amazing intros from pre-2010s or so include:
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Angel
Dawson’s Creek
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
Cheers
Lost
Adult animation like King of the Hill/Simpsons/Futurama
CBS sitcoms from the ‘90s like Raymond/King of Queens
Fox shows like X-Files/Married…With Children/Malcolm in the Middle/House/24
Other NBC sitcoms from the ‘90s and 2000s like Friends/Mad About You/3rd Rock from the Sun/Scrubs/Community/Will & Grace/30 Rock/The Office
I’ve seen a lot of recent shows as well, but I think I can name far fewer with catchy, well-crafted opening intros.
Was this a conscious choice from the people at the top of the TV industry or just a coincidence?
