Anyone else feel heartbroken for Bowser and Junior? (The critics are wrong about the "thin" story)

SpoilerDiscussion :Discussion:

I just got home from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and I don’t get why the critics are being so harsh. Yeah, the pacing was fast, but the story between Bowser and Junior was actually really deep and tragic.

Am I the only one who noticed they are both basically performers/artists (theatrical duo) in a cycle of evil?

The paintbrush felt like a gift from Bowser to Junior—a way for his son to be creative like him.Junior was clearly just trying to make his dad proud by being "evil," and then Bowser felt like he had to stay evil (even after Mario saved him!) just so he wouldn't let his son down. He wanted to be a "cool" evil dad. When Bowser acknowledged the Mario Bros. weren't that bad and even had that moment of vulnerability with Mario... it was so sad to see him go back to being "Dry Bowser" right after.

I feel like Kamek is the real villain here for raising Bowser to think he has to be a monster. It’s a shame they are stuck being villains when they clearly just want to be a family of artists.

What do you guys think? Is the "Dry Bowser" transformation a sign that the cycle is never going to break?
