Removing the styrofoam in 4Runner

I'm building out my 5th gen 4Runner to live out of full-time. I noticed there's styrofoam for sound deadening under the carpet in the cargo area. I installed my own sound deadening and closed cell foam for some insulation. Do I need the styrofoam? It'd be nice to remove for the extra little bit of space. Has anyone replaced that layer with some other carpet or flooring? Looking for ideas.
