Hi everyone,

Today, we played another family game of HeroQuest and here's how it went. Since [my last post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Heroquest/comments/1s402wh/immersive_first_ever_heroquest_game/), which was New Beginnings Online Quest 0, our family have collectively played through the first 3 official quests in the Game System. Everything went great, but nothing to write home about as it was pretty straightforward. The only change I made was in Quest 3, the Lair of the Orc Warlord, I added another set of the modular climbing rocks to get to Ulag's chamber, similar to how I did in the previous post.

Today was Quest 4, Prince Magnus' Gold. It was my 5 year old son, who switched to the Elf but retained all gear the Barbarian had, and he had a Raptor pet since we didn't have a 4th, and the Wizard and Dwarf for his grandparents. I noticed how straightforward the quest was in the book, so I took the liberty of modifying it to add some more flair for the heroes to traverse through. First, I swapped sides for the rooms, so that the starting staircase was closer to where the Heroes are at the table. The reason why is I added a waterway system for the map and this put it visually front and center for the heroes from their perspective. The quest is stated to take place inside the "Dark Mountains" so I added a mountainous [waterway system](https://www.amazon.com/Battle-Systems-228926-Ravenskeep-Sewers/dp/B0CKX8G4F8?crid=3MO82X46DXA32&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.-j8CZtub_Jw8rToqwcSvQQ.quHbDLe-9QmUgekjs6gwYihiKMdU80RpltGQ72n6vDc) that was initially hidden behind the double grate game tile (there's lava on the other side of the waterway tiles, so they can have a double use). I also added some [mountain walls](https://www.amazon.com/Low-Grotto-Walls-Compatible-Miniature/dp/B0CH995KDY?crid=12IOVE1ZLRA6W&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.lGk01_HBE1D3r3yecoWP2Uns-QNMY4lfdTMRrmdA9a514PqA-01PII_Hux4LtX-VEiUo9oZi8TERoiMty_P1-MuIPFPpOGhJoE6KFLvFK4rsWs06I-quKwJCd0GDr-gYfdEB_AP5unU3hdCyFyxE7emh7ae3U869RQyenNxIqRf9WFAigUnZ4RfdmhVZ5mLRvL5s_qO1z25AZXM3bTuyhpfGssCOIKAiS-5AUuQU_Pld_bD-N0vlSgX2kSAaWRAoOG79OpFfZOL1Dabeu1r1F-6xXVlFeThG0EJwnnYIgWw.9eq1aflEvIg4vczDXf1ELp7H8i006TTUQto1KMk-VRw) next to the water to denote we were inside a mountain.

Once the grate was opened, the heroes could choose to jump into the waterway and roll 1 D6 to be taken by the current. On a 1-2, they'd pop out of the first exit, inside a hidden room, 2-4 for the second exit, 5 for the third, and 6 for the final room where the waterway spills into a drain. Depending on how high their roll was, the treasure inside each room would be greater. Unfortunately, no one rolled above a 3 so the final two rooms were left unexplored. This process also served to split up the group, and there was an abomination at the end of each of the first two waterway exits so they had to fight their way through them alone at first.

Then, in the room on the bottom right there was a ladder bridge hidden in the cupboard that they could use to cross the water in the corridor to enter the center area. It also prevented a hero who might've rolled a 6 in the waterway from going too far ahead of the group, as they'd need to backtrack and find the bridge to progress. In the top left room, I put one of the new [LED fireplaces](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1703051906/miniature-fireplace-with-flickering?ref=shop_home_active_8&sts=1&logging_key=cfbe24a859190a78d7cb0f08b3565b6dc133f176%3A1703051906) I bought from the same vendor who made the torches I use for walls. The ambience for the quest was a [watery cave](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-pbILkmhMk).

For the final room, [Gulthor](https://minis3d.shop/en/chaos-warriors/gronith-campeon-del-caos.html) and his troop actually killed both the raptor pet and the Wizard before being taken out. It was the first show for the heroes that a boss can be truly dangerous. I did increase his body points to 6. I didn't force the group to return all the way to the stairs with the gold since all monsters were killed. I could've come up with more obstacles on the way back, but it would've felt anti-climactic after the big boss battle.

Also, on a separate note, I've come up with a nice storage solution for the game as Zargon that has everything quickly available to pick from. I purchased a [rolling makeup case](https://www.amazon.com/Yaheetech-Rolling-Makeup-Train-Case/dp/B08HCV2X7S?crid=RJ15BPLVHY17&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1nfPnk44YeuBMaVtxvMOJarKCv6ey8Rcbpd2cdCMLbTT10P0WxOBtKO_CT2kNZMhwhX4IQtfAIzd-hWefwopGlInssfA_qYIvILWnkvaZGTAzB17Eyvw5D-ZqOV6N7iEuojUmLoH11EZixQwZy7h8PxLG9ucemem-19cY2o9dOucOXNU5O61TjGSl54OPcZ7_Ns6XXqaPSCcyFef-mGFaaKtNII_Dh77hVZIgXjJKVAalHu3aJYxZZNcOtuISIqFE6GqHa-qrKK5SdM6BQdynlrV2vswdcD0jleXllajRkE.Yj-7CQjeFwwlotJ8o21CzGY-WwL4cNIQWSh3bvsBol0&th=1) from Amazon that has compartments that can separate out in front of me. With that and a separate box next to me just for the furniture, I had everything I needed.

Overall, everyone had a great time and they loved the waterway addition to the quest. They're still amazed by the variety of each quest they undertake.
