Fatigue or driver damage? Is placebo a real thing with IEMs

I purchased a pair of SloFlo MS001GMs after trying them out recently and was blown away at first. I thoroughly enjoyed them over the next few days, until suddenly one day I connected them to my Macbook Pro and it simply stopped sounding amazing. In fact, it had a kind of like, harsh radio sound - the bass and warmth felt missing, trebles noisy.

I use them with the Hiby FC5 DAC, and have been paranoid if the drivers have been damaged using it with the Macbook Pro.

Is this a legitimate concern? Is it placebo? Is fatigue from IEMs a real thing, where ears get hypersensitive and any treble freq is an annoying ringing sound?
