ISEF research Advice

Hi, I’m a high school student interested in doing independent research and possibly aiming for ISEF in the future.

I had a few questions and would really appreciate any advice:

1. How do people usually get started with independent research (especially if their school doesn’t have a strong research program)?

2. Is it realistic to do a project without a mentor, or is finding one basically necessary?

3. I’m really interested in game theory—does it get used a lot in ISEF projects, or is it kind of uncommon?

4. Any tips on choosing a strong project idea that actually stands out?
