Your homepage headline is doing the wrong job. Here's what it should say.
A homepage headline has one job: tell the right person they're in the right place.
Most SaaS headlines fail this. They describe the product ("AI-powered analytics platform") or make a generic claim ("Grow your business faster"). Neither tells a specific buyer that this is built for them.
The formula that works:
[Specific buyer] + [specific outcome] + [timeframe or without clause]
Before: "Sales automation for B2B teams" After: "B2B sales reps close 2 more deals per month without adding a single new tool to their stack"
The three elements:
- Specific buyer — narrow enough that the wrong person knows immediately this isn't for them
- Specific outcome — measurable. Not "more productive" but "4 hours back per week"
- Timeframe or without clause — makes the outcome feel achievable. "In the first week" or "without changing your existing workflow"
The test: read your headline to someone who doesn't know your product. Can they tell you who it's for? If not, rewrite it.
Secondary test: would your best customer read this headline and immediately feel "this is for me"? If there's any ambiguity, the headline is too broad.
