Advice for travel with dog to Darwin

Looking for advice please. Due to travel to Darwin for work in July, from New Zealand. Thinking about flying into Brisbane or Melbourne and travelling up over a week or so in a camper or possibly a car with accom along the way. Has anyone done this and any tips or recommendations?
