Friends in med school?
When I was in first year MBBS, I used to see all those reels about how friendships fade in med school and thought, “nah, my friends aren’t like that.”
I genuinely believed we’d all stick together through everything.
Now I’m in final year… and somehow I don’t have anyone I can really call my best friend.
It’s weird because I do have friends. I know people, I talk, I laugh, we hang out sometimes — but it all feels surface-level. No one I can randomly call at 2 AM. No one who automatically thinks of me the way I think of them. And lately I’ve started feeling like I’m just… a burden if I reach out too much.
What hurts the most isn’t being alone physically — it’s realizing that the effort you put into people isn’t always returned. You show up for them, listen to them, celebrate them, support them… and slowly you notice they wouldn’t do the same for you. Not intentionally maybe, but still.
Med school is so crowded yet somehow so isolating. Everyone is busy surviving, chasing postings, exams, relationships, their own lives — and somewhere along the way, connections become transactional or convenient.
I don’t even know if this is normal or if I just expected too much from friendships. Maybe people grow differently. Maybe priorities change. Or maybe adulthood just quietly replaces “best friends” with acquaintances.
Just wondering if anyone else reached final year and suddenly felt… lonelier than they ever expected to be.
anyways anyone from eluru who wanna be friends?🥹😭
