Random comparison to velvets
Listening to GD, then Velvets, got to thinking of some real similarities - even though they hated each other and all their fans did too.
But listen:
Both got their start as the house band of their biggest local scene maker. GD for Kesey, Velvets for Warhol. On opposite coasts they played the same role somewhat.
Both bands are psychedelic as hell. Very experimental, but ALSO with excellent classic melodic songwriting and lyrics.
The Dead scene was created by LSD, while Velvets were about heroin and speed...but note what drug Jerry was ultimately doing most of his best stuff on. Not LSD, Heroin.
Well, silly thoughts. Does anyone else even like both bands??
