Adoption / relinquishing baby at birth - do I need to tell my parents? (England)
Basically, I got pregnant through a one night stand with someone I barely know. By the time I found out I was pregnant and had an appointment about termination, I was literally 2 days past the time I could have one. Im 27 and living with friends in a house share.
I’ve never wanted a child especially not in these circumstances so I decided almost immediately that baby would be relinquished at birth so they can go to a loving home who wants them
Spoken to the father and he’s in the same boat and happy to agree to adoption/relinquishment at birth.
I’ve had some appointment with social services about adoption/relinquishment and in my most recent appointment the social worker was putting a LOT of pressure on me to tell my parents about the baby. I have only told a couple of friends and the father, bc I’m so embarrassed about being in this situation, and I don’t want to deal with the judgment that will 100% come with it.
My parents are both approaching their 70’s, still have my younger (but adult) siblings living at home and are retired and definitely wouldn’t be in a position to care for baby, and tbh because of the way baby was conceived I don’t think them remaining in the family would be for the best at all
Also - my parents would be so upset/disappointed/angry at me for the situation I’ve gotten myself into (which I am well aware of and do not need a lecture but for what it’s worth we did use protection etc etc) that it would 100% affect my relationship with them, so I would really rather they didn’t know
So basically TLDR, do I absolutely have to tell my parents about the baby or can I continue to not do so, will this affect the adoption process, what else should I know?
I just want baby to go to a loving home with people who want them and would be able to look after them properly
Thanks!!
