King Kong (2005)
Personally, the greatest King Kong iteration to ever exist! A younger me sat in the living room with his family, watching TV, and then a King Kong trailer played with such amazing action and a massive gorilla pounding on his chest, ready to square up!
The movie starts you off in an older New York city with such great details, from clothing to buildings and infrastructure and mannerisms all the way to how hectic the streets were. Peter Jackson and his team do such an amazing job giving us this world.
So in New York City, I'm telling myself that this is going to be such a nice campy King Kong movie with great action... UNTIL! we travel to Skull Island😱🙆♂️ now my blood is reeeelly pumping! the tone completely changes beyond what I expected 💀
we first meet the creepy but creative savages which scared me a lot but I'm like, Let's keep going! 🤣
The savages attack the ship after the crew disturbs their sanctum or whatever, and later they do their ritualistic dance to summon Kong and ohhhh boy, you definitely get that "We're not in Kansas anymore" vibe 🤣
Anyway, Kong creeps up to take the girl and flees in the cover of the night before he shortly glances at Jack Black. And come to think of it, I think it's because of Jack Black that I thought it was gunna be a campy action movie, cause I only knew him as the funny guy 😅
Anyway, the crew now needs to go save the girl from Kong, only to discover that skull island is not just meer land in a large body of water, it’s a lost world with mystery, wonder, dinosaurs and creepy crawlies. in hindsight, it's kinda difficult to tell who the hero is in this story cause everyone (including the creatures). Also, it's the crew that disturbed that world, so you can blame them for protecting themselves or trying to eat in their natural habitat.
This love story of a movie teleports us back to New york City with a captured Kong, but this time it's a little different. The hectic New york City that runs like clockwork now introduces an animal that disrupts everything (in a cool way, to be honest). Kong frees himself, and it's chaos cause Kong finna STAND ON BUSINESS if he's ever to get back his Juliet of a love.
Kong is ultimately killed for loce, and as much as you side with the humans at the beginning of the movie, you kinda ask yourself, who was more a savage? the large ape in his own home? or the humans who disturbed it and destroyed what they couldn't control?
Overall, 10/10 movie for me. No skips whatsoever 😎
