Homebrew campaign ideas for players who haven't read stormlight archives

I recently got the cosmere rule book and world book for stormlight archives and have been reading it when I've been with friends and they asked me if i could run a campaign for them. They don't have any experience in the world and are all pretty new to ttrpgs (only a 2 having played dnd and pathfinder before).

My current idea was to run a campaign adjacent to the books (starting on the shattered plains as a suicide squad rather then a bridgecrew) and working through the books.

I'm just finding it hard to make it into a story that feels compelling and interesting to play. If you can give me some recommendations or other ideas that would be greatly appreciated.
