The current update strategy feels way more impactful (big update + small DLC) and it shows why Shattered Space missed its moment
It’s honestly really nice to see the overall sentiment around the game starting to shift. It feels like the wind is finally turning, and I think the current approach they’re taking is a big part of that.
What they’re doing now just makes more sense. Pairing a meaningful, substantial update with a more focused DLC creates something that feels complete. It doesn’t just add content, it improves the overall experience at the same time, which is exactly what the game needed. Like the game is evolving instead of just being patched.
I genuinely believe Shattered Space would have been received very differently if it had launched alongside things like the REV 8, dynamic maps, gameplay options, creations, 60 fps mode on Xbox and all the other improvements that came in updates leading up to it. The problem is that people expected Shattered Space to fix a lot of the base game’s issues on its own (which is understandable)
If all those updates had been bundled together with the expansion, the promise would have felt much closer to being fulfilled. But instead, everything was fragmented.
Unfortunately, the first year of support kind of lost its impact because of the way updates were handled. Releasing smaller updates every six weeks just wasn’t enough. It felt too incremental, like progress you could barely feel, and instead of building momentum it often just made the gaps more noticeable.
