At what revenue point did you find Shopify Plus actually "paid for itself"?

I’ve been seeing a massive surge of mid-market brands migrating to Shopify Plus lately. Two years ago, it felt like a luxury for the 1%. In 2026, it feels like a tactical necessity for anyone doing over $2M ARR.

After helping a few clients make the switch this quarter, I’ve realized it’s not about the "status" anymore—it's about these three specific shifts:

1. The "Agentic Commerce" Gap 🤖 Standard Shopify has AI, but Plus has Sidekick Agents that actually automate the "grunt work." One of my clients saved 15+ hours a week just by having an agent manage their complex B2B tiered pricing and inventory syncing across 4 regions. If you're paying a dev to do this manually, you're losing money.

2. Checkout Extensibility = Survival 🛒 With 2026’s hyper-competitive ad costs, you cannot survive on a generic checkout. The ability to use Shopify Functions to build custom, margin-aware discount logic at checkout is the only thing keeping our AOV (Average Order Value) above water.

3. The Wholesale/D2C Hybrid 🏢 We’re seeing huge legacy B2B companies finally launching D2C storefronts. They need a single backend that handles both. Plus is the only platform right now that doesn't make that a technical nightmare.

The Reality Check: If you’re doing $500k a year, stay on the Advanced plan. But if you’re scaling and your team is drowning in "manual clicks," the $2,300/mo (approx) starts to look cheap compared to hiring another operations manager.

I’m curious for the store owners/devs here—what was the "breaking point" that made you upgrade? Or do you think Plus is still overpriced for what it offers?
