Mixed signals
I (F) dated a guy (M) for around a couple of months. The connection developed pretty quickly and felt quite intense. We spent a lot of time together and had strong chemistry.
He often said very affectionate things – that he liked me a lot, that I was amazing, and that he felt very drawn to me. At times he was extremely warm and attentive.
However, there were also moments when he seemed a bit more distant. It wasn’t like everything suddenly changed overnight – it was more that some days he was very warm and engaged, and other days he felt quieter or more withdrawn.
One thing that also shaped the dynamic between us was that both of us seemed to keep a bit of emotional protection up. I realized that I also wasn’t fully opening up right away, probably because I was afraid of getting hurt. In a way it felt like we both liked each other but were also a bit guarded.
At one point he mentioned that he doesn’t really see himself in a long-term relationship right now, even though he said he liked me a lot. That confused me because his behavior and words toward me were often very affectionate.
After our last conversation I sent a calm message basically saying that maybe we just weren’t the right match and that it’s okay. He never replied.
For some additional context, he sometimes seemed emotionally inconsistent – very warm and affectionate at times, but occasionally distant or moody. He once mentioned having struggled with substances in the past, which also made me wonder if that could play a role in emotional ups and downs.
Now I’m left feeling a bit confused because the connection felt genuine, but the ending felt abrupt and unresolved.
