Testosterone causing anxiety?

Hi Peri community. I’m seeking stories of other people’s experiences with Androfeme Testosterone cream.

I am 49F, I have been on Estrogen gel (1.5pump) and Prometrium capsules (200 daily not cycling) since Oct ‘25, mostly for symptoms of insomnia and anxiety. This combination restored me to myself, eradicated the anxiety, and I was doing great. I still get periods irregularly but they now last 2 days.

My Dr did bloods and told me my testosterone was low, so she prescribed Androfeme 5mg daily- at first it was amazing, I had energy, stamina, my mood improved… until four weeks to the day of starting it my anxiety came back with a vengeance. Panic attacks, not sleeping, intrusive thoughts. My gut is telling me it’s the T.

So I got an emergency appointment with my Dr who said it can’t be the T because it initially helped… and she prescribed me benzo’s and an SSRI that I had a horribly negative reaction to. I am not touching those meds ever again.

I am now going it alone trying to taper the T and trying to get my life back. This anxiety is the WORST.

- I’m also late diagnosed autistic and ADHD and I feel like this could be complicating things, being possibly hyper-sensitive to certain meds etc.

Has anyone experienced similar with Testosterone? What helped?
