AITA for wanting my spouse to organize a birthday party for a milestone year?
Been married for more than 30 years and hosted bday parties for my partner when we were younger. Also hosted amazing parties for our children every year (while working full time)
Ten years ago I had a milestone birthday and requested a party. My friend offered to help. I was unpleasantly surprised when I got off of work that day and was told that nothing had been planned. It’s ten years later, another milestone. We are 6 weeks out from my bday and I asked my partner to please organize something for my birthday. They said “Well. . .”, then asked me what they should do, where it should be, who should be there, what we should eat, how to order a cake, etc. My father and mother organized amazing parties for each other; twice my dad completely surprised my mother with large parties she wasn’t expecting, so maybe my expectations are too much? My spouse is retired and I work full time. I suppose the healthy thing would be to accept that I will never have a bday party unless I host it for myself but I am sad. Our friends’ spouses plan parties for each other. I feel left out
