🏛️ Trump Orders Pay for DHS Workers: Executive order bypasses shutdown stalemate 👇

President Donald Trump announced he will sign an executive order directing that all Department of Homeland Security employees receive pay, despite the ongoing partial shutdown that has left large parts of the department unfunded for more than six weeks.

The order would provide compensation to roughly 220,000 DHS employees, including personnel at FEMA, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and civilian staff within the Coast Guard, who have continued working during the shutdown without regular paychecks.

The move follows a similar step taken earlier to ensure Transportation Security Administration officers continued receiving pay during the funding lapse. Administration officials said the president is acting to prevent disruption to essential national security and emergency management operations while the political standoff in Congress continues.

The shutdown began after lawmakers failed to pass a long-term funding agreement for DHS amid disagreements over immigration enforcement policy and agency funding levels. The House and Senate approved competing funding proposals, leaving negotiations stalled and forcing parts of the department to operate without appropriations.

While the executive order would provide pay to affected employees, it does not resolve the underlying funding dispute, and the legal basis for how the administration will finance the payments has not been fully detailed. Some DHS personnel, including Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Protection employees, were already being paid through previously approved legislation.

Congressional leaders from both parties have continued negotiations on potential funding solutions, but no agreement has yet been reached to reopen the entire department.
