Understanding WiFi Signal Changes Caused by Human Movement

WiFi signals inside buildings can change when the environment shifts, including when people move around. These movements can affect signal strength and how signals bounce around (multipath effects).

Some systems try to use these small changes to detect motion or presence. For example, wifisense motion looks at variations in WiFi signals between a device and a router to identify activity.

A key challenge is telling the difference between actual movement and normal signal noise, interference, or changes caused by other connected devices.

I’m curious how accurately these signal changes can be measured and whether this approach works consistently across different environments.
